CUSTOMER STORY

Windstream uses VitalMetrics Carbon360 software to measure and report to CDP

Background

Windstream is a multibillion-dollar company that provides voice and data network communications in the United States.

In 2019, Windstream wanted to include scope 3 emissions in its CDP reporting for the first time and needed to find a partner who had expertise in measuring scope 3 emissions and could help them maximize its CDP results. Windstream had been participating in the CDP program since 2006 but was never able to fully capture and report all the necessary metrics or tell its emissions reduction story most effectively.

“There is an art and a science to the CDP process, and VitalMetrics is an expert at both.  Their Carbon360 software platform significantly reduced the time and effort it took to calculate Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions, and allowed us to report on Scope 3 for the first time. My team and I highly recommend VitalMetrics to any organization looking for a strategic partner to quantify and manage their carbon footprint and climate-related risks, deliver business value, and maximize your CDP results.”

— Mark Reed, SVP & CPO | Windstream

Solution

After a comprehensive review and RFP of leading environmental advisors, Windstream selected VitalMetrics as its partner to help quantify and report GHG emissions and conduct a thorough climate risk and opportunity assessment to support their annual CDP submission.

The Carbon 360 platform significantly reduced the time and effort it took to calculate Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions and report on Scope 3 for the first time while helping put the company’s best foot forward. As Mark Reed, the SVP & CPO said,

Their advice and guidance on how to correctly respond to the CDP questionnaire, including where to include examples to maximize points, was both invaluable.”

The VitalMetrics team also helped identify areas they could make subtle changes to improve their program for the following year. While CDP scores for 2019 haven’t been released yet, they already know they plan to use VitalMetrics next year, considering them as an extension of their sustainability team.
