Environmentally-Extended Input-Output Data Scientist

We’re entering a new economy where every transaction will have emissions alongside price, and VitalMetrics will help ensure that emissions calculations are scientifically sound with the best available data. 

VitalMetrics is a 100% remote company and plans to stay that way. 

About the Role

VitalMetrics develops a unique and globally recognized data set used by leading organizations.

In this role, you will work alongside our Chief Scientist, Dr. Sangwon Suh, and VP of Business Development to manage our core data product, CEDA Global, from feature development roadmap through to customer success. You will be our first Data Product Manager, so we need someone who is both entrepreneurial and product driven to help build the framework for a successful data product management practice. 

You will report to our Chief Scientist, who has built and managed CEDA Global for the last 20 years. 

This role is a key hire and will have significant influence over how our core product evolves, reaches new customer segments, and improves to become the industry standard GHG emissions dataset. 

As the EEIO Data Scientist, half of your job will be on EEIO data development , and half will be CEDA Global user support. 

Key Responsibilities

Data Development (50%)

  • CEDA development roadmap that clearly articulates future releases and longer-term development strategy for CEDA Global

  • Work with the Chief Scientist to document the CEDA Global development process and improve the code-base (in Matlab) to enable better automation for future updates.

  • Work with the Chief Scientist to identify new data needs and improvement opportunities.

  • Work with the Chief Scientist to update and extend CEDA Global. 

CEDA Global User Support (50%)

  • Help build our knowledge base and customer support function

  • Onboard new clients and users to the data set

  • Respond to and triage customer support and feature requests

  • Work with our management to build out a customer success department

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in using or building environmentally extended input-output data sets

  • BS or MS in a data science related field or equivalent technical experience

  • Strong analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to translate data analysis findings to key stakeholders

  • Ability to understand, discuss and challenge trade-offs with technical team members

  • Programming experience with Matlab is required. Proficiency in other computational programing languages such as R and Python is desirable

  • Deep personal and professional interest in sustainability and climate 

How You’ll Ramp Up

  • 30 Days: Comfortable with the overall organization of CEDA Global datasets, underlying code structure, and common business use cases

  • 60 Days: Able to contribute to the improvement of the code, documentation, and the data; deliver customer support and manage feature roadmap

  • 90 Days: Driving internal conversations on data organization, structure, and roadmap
